The studio focuses on collectible lighting, sculptural forms, and site-specific objects developed for contemporary interiors. Each work begins with a direct engagement with material - exploring raw tactility through craft and process.
The studio produces both unique and limited-edition objects, as well as custom commissions developed in close collaboration with architects and collectors. These projects often extend to architectural elements or installations, where light, raw texture, and form become integral parts of a spatial experience.
Bart Brylew focuses his design practice on experimenting with materials and techniques. He creates objects out of ceramic and glass that blur the line between sculpture and functional items.
Sensitivity to material and the purity of form in architecture inspired him to create his monolithic objects. The first step involves creating a scaled model, which often replaces a sketch on paper. Each project begins with the search for textures and the creation of material samples, serving as tangible evidence of experimentation. The outcome of his intuitive process is frequently a monolithic form that resembles geological rock formations more than functional items.
Each creation carries an earthy, organic quality, often appearing to be in a state of metamorphosis - suspended between the natural and the abstract. Every project is shaped through the contribution of skilled craftspeople and local artisans, from glassmakers to ceramic technicians. Working within regional networks of production allows the studio to unite traditional craftsmanship with contemporary experimentation - grounding each piece in authenticity and material depth, where ancient and industrial techniques converge to create tactile experiences that challenge our perception of design.
Approach
We collaborate closely with architects, collectors, and private clients to develop site-specific lighting and sculptural objects. Custom pieces begin with a conversation - understanding the space and the role the object will play within it.
We work through sketches, material samples, and scale models, refining proportion, texture, and colors until the piece feels right.
Each commission is produced by hand in our studio and in partnership with local artisans.
